My 5 1/2 yr old son took a one week package of lessons with John. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go since my son had initially expressed a desire to learn to swim but days before his lessons, he started saying that he didn’t want to go or put his head in the water. John was very patient and kind with my son. He showed my son what to do and instructed him to do it in a way that my son accepted. By the end of the 1st 25-minute lesson, my son had his face in the water and was able to hold his breath! By the end of the 1st lesson, my son was begging to go back to see John. By the end of the 2nd session, my son was able to swim across the pool with his head in the water! My husband and I were amazed! By the end of the 4th session, my son was willing and able to jump into the pool and swim to the side. We highly recommend taking John’s classes. His gentle but direct manner is wonderful. He goes at the person’s pace and then pushes them a little farther, but in a way that encourages rather than forces the person. He was definitely worth the drive down from Carlsbad.”
